Husqvarna Chainsaw Fuel Mix (Step By Step Guidance)

Someone who uses a chainsaw on a regular basis will tell you how important it is to get the fuel mixture ratio right. If you are a proud owner of a Husqvarna chainsaw, it’s time to get your facts right.

You should always refer to the user manual to get the correct fuel ratio suitable for the specific model. Nonetheless, the general rule is to use a 50:1 fuel-to-oil ratio for chainsaws that are under and including 75cc. In other words, you will have to use 2.5 fluid ounces of oil for 50 gallons of fuel.

If you want to know more about the Husqvarna chainsaw fuel mix, make sure to go through the entire article.

Husqvarna Chainsaw Fuel Mix Ratio

All chainsaws from Husqvarna that are below or equivalent to 75cc use a common fuel-to-oil ratio. The ratio is 50:1. That means when you are using a gallon of fuel, you will have to mix 2.5 fluid ounces of oil into the fuel.

For machines that are more than 75cc, it might require a 33:1 fuel-to-oil ratio. So, the best thing is to check what the manual says you should go for.

If you don’t have the manual, you can find it online on Husqvarna’s website. If the website doesn’t have your model, you can also contact them for help.

It’s important to add the proper amount of oil to the fuel. When the oil amount isn’t sufficient, it can cause the chainsaw to overheat and damage the engine. On the contrary, using too much oil can cause carbon buildup and permanent damage.

So, it’s essential to be precise about the amount of oil. In addition, using the right type of oil is also significant to the outcome.

Even though mineral oils can save you money, they won’t have a positive impact on your chainsaw. So, make sure to stick to synthetic oil suitable for 2-cycle engines.

Husqvarna Chainsaw Gas Mix: Step-By-Step Procedure

The process of mixing oil is not always the same for all chainsaws. It’s better to stick to the instructions offered by the specific brand. Let’s see what Husqvarna suggests for their chainsaws.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Clean and fuel-approved container
  • 89 octane unleaded gasoline 1 gallon
  • 2.5 fluid ounce of 2-cycle engine oil
  • A wiping cloth

Step 1: Preparation

Before you start mixing the oil and the gasoline, there are a few things to make sure of. First of all, the chainsaw should be cool and turned off before you pour the mixture into it.

Secondly, you should choose a well-ventilated area to do the procedure, preferably outdoors. Last but not least, make sure that everything is near at hand so that the process isn’t chaotic.

Step 2: Add Half of the Gasoline

Take the clean fuel container and add half a gallon of gasoline to it. If you are using any other amount, pour half of that amount inside the container. Using the proper container here is a significant thing to keep in mind.

The container must be fuel approved and clean. One of the leading causes of fuel contamination happens to be a dirty container.

Step 3: Add Oil

Now, add the entire amount of oil to the mixture. For one gallon of gasoline, you will have to add 2.5 fluid ounces of synthetic 2-cycle oil.

Step 4: Shake And Mix

Close the container cap and shake the container gently for about ten to fifteen seconds. Allow the oil to mix with the gasoline.

Step 5: Add the Remaining Gasoline

Now, open the container cap again and add the remaining amount of gasoline. Close the container and shake it again for about ten to fifteen seconds.

Step 6: Refill Tank

Open your chainsaw’s fuel tank cap and carefully pour the mixture into the tank. Make sure not to exceed 80% capacity of the tank.

Close the cap and wipe the area with a cloth. Make sure there is no spill on the chainsaw. Before starting the chainsaw, take it away from the place where you mixed the fuel and refilled it.

Things To Remember For Husqvarna Chainsaw Oil Mix

As straightforward as the procedure is, there are a few things to keep in mind. Let’s go through them briefly.

Separate Fuel Container

Never mix the fuel inside the chainsaw fuel tank. Use a separate container that’s suitable and clean.

Use the Proper Products

Husqvarna suggests that you use at least 87 octane gasoline for your chainsaw. However, the best option is to use at least 89 octane gasoline.

In addition, you have to make sure that the fuel is unleaded if you want to protect the chainsaw in the long run.

As for the oil, don’t save money on it. Go for the suitable synthetic 2-cycle oil instead of mineral or motor oil. You can also skip the entire mixing process by using the premix fuel by Husqvarna.

The fuel tank you use is another thing that you should choose carefully. If you don’t have a top-notch fuel mixing container yet, here are some suggestions:

Don’t Store the Fuel for too Long

One thing I can’t highlight enough is not to store mixed fuel for more than a month. It’s a good idea not to mix more fuel than you would need in a month. This way, you can ensure that the fuel’s integrity is intact and your chainsaw engine is protected.

If you must store the fuel mix for longer, there are additives you can get that increase the stability of the fuel.

Safety Measures:

  • Do not run the chainsaw where you mixed the fuel and refilled the tank.
  • Keep the fuel tank tightly closed.
  • Make sure there’s no spillage on your clothes while mixing the fuel. If there is, take care of it before using the chainsaw again.
  • Make sure that the chainsaw is turned off for some time and has the chance to cool off before you refill the fuel tank.
  • Always do the mixing in a well-ventilated area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 50 to 1 ratio in liters?

If you are calculating the ratio in liters, you will have to use 20 ml of oil for one liter of gasoline. Similarly, 40 ml for 2 liters and 60 ml for 3 liters.

What happens if the fuel-to-oil ratio isn’t accurate?

If you are using too much oil in the mixture, you will face several issues. For instance, there will be carbon buildup, the engine will struggle to turn on, and it can cause the engine to emit smoke clouds. On the contrary, using too little oil isn’t effective either. It can cause the engine to overheat, resulting in internal damage.

Can I use mineral oils for my chainsaw?

While mineral oils are cheap and excellent for lubricating engines, it’s not a good match for your chainsaw fuel mix. Mineral oils tend to leave more deposits than synthetic oils, causing damage to the engine.

Wrap Up

Husqvarna chainsaw fuel mix isn’t much different than any other 2-stroke engine fuel mix. All you have to do is follow the ratio and mix the gasoline and oil while following the safety measures.

Nonetheless, I do recommend checking your chainsaw’s user manual for instructions before refilling the fuel tank. It can save you time and give you peace of mind.

You can easily find the manual of any model on Husqvarna’s website. So, even if you don’t have the hard copy, it’s recommended that you take the time to get the soft copy online and check the requirement for that specific model.
